The two square-mile Borough of
Riverdale is located in the northeast corner of Morris
County. Situated along the Pequannock River, Riverdale was a
mill town in its early days. Joseph Slater’s 1860 mill still
stands today along the river. Incorporated in 1923, the
borough shares its borders with Butler, Kinnelon and
Pequannock.
Transportation
Two major highways, Interstate 287 and New Jersey Route 23,
intersect within the borough. The construction of the I-287
and Route 23 interchange greatly affected the small borough.
While part of its downtown was demolished, the improved
access to the New York metropolitan region has attracted new
commercial development.Schools
The Riverdale School District serves students From
Kindergarten - 8th Grades. Students in grades 9 through 12
attend Pompton Lakes High School in Pompton Lakes
Recreation Facilities
County, state and federal
parks, are within a few minutes drive where you can try your
hand at everything from bocce to baseball. The Morris County
Park Commission operates 24 sites, including three golf
courses, two aboreta and the Mennen Sports Arena and offers
a year-round program of activities throughout the county
like adult education courses, programs for school children,
planned trail walks, golf tournaments and outdoor concerts.
