The
Borough of Morris Plains is a residential community of approximately 2 square miles. At one time the town contained many large estates. Today, this quiet dignity is retained in a suburban atmosphere which mixes older homes, tree-lined streets, wooded areas, and new well-planned residential districts.
Morris Plains offers its residents many of the benefits and conveniences of suburban living. A small shopping center along Main Street provides convenient banking and staple shopping facilities. Extensive department store and specialty shopping is available in nearby Morristown and at Route 10 shopping malls.
The municipality’s excellent public school system provides neighborhood schools for most children. Secondary classes are shared with Morristown and Morris Township schools.
In addition, the municipality maintains a 47-acre recreation site that offers a full program of activities. The facilities include a swimming pool, tennis courts, skating and fishing areas. Smaller neighborhood parks extend into most residential districts.
Transportation
Routes 202 and 53 bisect the town and provide efficient access to the following major metropolitan arteries: Route 10, 287, 280, and I-80. The New Jersey Transit railroad station is in
the center of town an offers commuters excellent service to many points within the New York metropolitan area. Nearby Morristown Airport has limousine and
helicopter service to all major airports.
Shopping
Local shopping area, Morristown Center, Morris County Mall.
Area shoppers also have the convenience of being only
minutes away from both the Livingston Mall and the Mall at
Short Hills.
Recreational Facilities
Today, Morris Plains provides a plethora of social and
cultural options for its residents. Morristown center is
45 minutes away from midtown Manhattan via the midtown
direct train from the Morristown Train Station. Jockey
Hollow and other county, state and federal parks, are
within a 15 minute drive. Within the town proper there is
a theatre, movie house, and shopping opportunities
including department stores and specialty boutiques, as
well as numerous, ethnically diverse restaurants.
